Kingspan Greenguard

Kingspan GreenGuard is a type of insulated extruded polystyrene (XPS) panel. Greenguard’s outstanding compressive strength qualifies it for use in specialist flooring systems.

What is Kingspan GreenGuard Insulation?

GreenGuard is a dense panel with enhanced stability and resistance to water. Due to its reduced water absorption, it is best suited for use in foundations and basements.

What is GreenGuard Insulation Used for?

Kingspan GreenGuard insulation is used in different ways, including:

  • Parking structures
  • Heavy duty flooring
  • Commercial flooring
  • Foundations
  • Load bearing applications
  • Exterior insulations

Types of Kingspan GreenGuard

Kingspan’s GreenGuard line of insulated boards comprises GG300, GG500, and GG700.

All three can withstand vehicle loads and are optimised for flooring applications that require high compressive strength and durability.

Kingspan GreenGuard GG300

Properties unique to Kingspan GreenGuard GG300 include:

  • 30-180 mm for boards with rebated edges.
  • 30-75 mm for straight-edge boards.
  • Weighs approximately 3kg/m² at 100 mm thickness.
  • Compressive strength – 300 kPa.
  • Thermal conductivity – 0.033 W/mK for 30-180 mm thickness.

Kingspan GreenGuard GG500

The Kingspan GreenGuard GG500 has the following properties:

  • Available in 50 mm, 60 mm, 80 mm and 100 mm thickness
  • Weighs approximately 3.30kg/m² at 100 mm thickness
  • Compressive strength – 500 kPa
  • Thermal conductivity (50 & 60 mm boards) – 0.034 W/mK
  • Thermal conductivity (80 & 100 mm boards) – 0.036 W/mK

Kingspan GreenGuard GG700

Kingspan GreenGuard GG700 properties include:

  • Thickness – 50, 60 & 80 mm
  • Weighs approximately 2.40kg/m² at 80 mm thickness
  • Compressive strength – 700 kPa
  • Thermal conductivity – 0.035 W/mK (all thickness options)

Benefits of Kingspan GreenGuard Insulation

Here’s what makes GreenGuard insulation a worthy investment:

  • It boasts excellent heat resistance.
  • Kingspan GreenGuard’s closed cell form keeps the rate of water absorption low.
  • Remarkable compressive and bending strength make it well suited for foundations, terraces and roadways.
  • The board remains stable between -70 ℃ and 75 ℃.
  • It’s a durable board that does not decompose and can stay in use for decades.

FAQ:

What is Kingspan GreenGuard?

GreenGuard Kingspan is an XPS board with remarkably high compressive strength and moisture resistance. These unparalleled properties enable it to perform exceptionally well in areas with strict load bearing structural requirements and those at high risk of water exposure, such as foundations and basements.

How to install Kingspan GreenGuard

There are three main ways to install GreenGuard boards: through mechanical fixing, by adhesive bonding, and loose-laid installation.

1. To fix GreenGuard mechanically

This method is usually used on framed substrates, walls, and some roofs.

  • Clean the substrate or framing and let it dry.
  • Place your GreenGuard panel against the wall or studs.
  • Fix the board to the wall using screws or ring-shank nails, spacing them uniformly across the surface. This will prevent bowing.
  • Seal the joints with GreenGuard seal tape or other compatible jointing tape.

2. To fix GreenGuard with adhesive

This method is normally used on retrofit upgrades, masonry walls, and areas where fixings cannot be used.

  • Run beads or dot and dab a Kingspan-approved adhesive across the back of the board.
  • Firmly press the GreenGuard against the substrate to make sure the adhesive holds.
  • Keep the boards close together and level.
  • Seal with approved tape or flashing.

3. To loose lay GreenGuard

This method applies to floors, below-grade areas (basement floors, under slabs), and some inverted roof systems.

  • Clean and level the base.
  • Fit the boards from edge to edge.
  • Stagger the joints so the boards do not form vertical lines across layers.
  • Add a second layer if needed, offsetting it to prevent aligned seams.
  • Lay the subsequent floor layer: screed, membrane, or protection layer.

What is GreenGuard insulation made of?

Kingspan GreenGuard insulation is made from polystyrene, which is a type of synthetic polymer. The polystyrene is first heated to a molten state and mixed with various additives. After a series of treatments using controlled heat and pressure, the mixture is extruded, allowed to cool and solidify, and then cut into different sizes.
