How to fit acoustic plasterboard?

Step 1: Prepare the frame – Attach the studs to the structure, ensuring they are positioned squarely.

Step 2: Add insulation – Optional, but recommended when you need to insulate the area. Fit insulation between each stud before boarding to enhance acoustic performance.

Step 3: Install the boards – Mount the plasterboard into position, with the coloured side facing out and the edges tightly closed together to minimise any gaps.

Step 4: Fasten boards – Secure each board using the correct plasterboard screw type for your frame. Maintain uniform spacing to keep the surface consistently secure and neat.

Step 5: Stagger joints (for double layers) – This step applies only when you are fitting two layers. Offset the joints so they do not align. This will help block potential sound transfer.

Step 6: Seal all gaps – Fill the edges and joints with acoustic sealant.

Step 7: Tidy up – Apply joint tape and compound, then sand smooth for a professional, uniform finish.
