Partition Wall Insulation Eurothane GP
To create a more serene, private atmosphere in your rooms, one of the most straightforward and effective improvements is to install insulation in the stud cavities of partition walls.
Partition wall insulation reduces sound transmission between adjoining spaces, creating a quieter, more comfortable, and more tranquil living environment.
What is partition insulation?
Partition wall insulation is a sound-absorbing material installed within non-load-bearing internal walls, typically timber or metal studs.
It usually comes in the form of mineral wool slabs or rolls, which fit tightly into timber and metal studs. With proper installation, the material limits the transfer of airborne and impact sound waves between rooms. It also helps maintain a steady indoor temperature.
What is partition wall insulation used for?
Partition wall sound insulation is meant for use on internal stud walls:
- On timber stud walls – Mineral wool slabs or rolls friction-fit between studs.
- For metal stud partitions – Rigid acoustic slabs fit without sagging.
- In high-performance acoustic walls, commercial spaces, and high-spec domestic projects – Denser mineral wool or acoustic boards.
- Basic non-acoustic partitions – Lighter rolls can be used, but slabs perform better due to greater density and stability.
Partition wall insulation is not used in masonry walls and should not be confused with party wall insulation.
Types of partition insulation for walls
The main types of partition insulation for walls in the UK are:
-
Mineral wool slabs
Rigid or semi-rigid slabs made from glass wool or rock wool and the most common. The go-to option for acoustic partitions because they are dense, easy to friction-fit, and give strong sound absorption.
-
Mineral wool rolls
Softer rolls are used in stud walls where the spec does not demand high density. Although they are less robust than slabs, they offer moderate acoustic control.
-
Acoustic insulation boards / panels
Used in commercial or high-performance walls. They include acoustic-rated rigid boards or specialist panels designed to maximise soundproofing.
-
Phenolic insulation boards
Phenolic foam boards may be used in niche situations where thermal performance matters more than sound control. It provides high thermal resistance but poor acoustic absorption. Therefore, it is a specialist option rather than a standard choice for partition walls.
Benefits of insulation for the partition
Adding partition wall thermal insulation helps:
- Control noise between rooms for enhanced privacy.
- Improve comfort levels by retaining warmth or keeping rooms cool, depending on the weather.
- Lower heating and cooling costs by making rooms energy-efficient.
- Minimise draughts entering rooms and stabilise room temperatures.
- Enhance overall building quality so interiors feel cosier and more pleasant.
FAQ
Where to buy partition wall insulation?
You can buy partition wall insulation online directly from Insulation Wholesale. We offer mineral wool slabs, rolls, and specialist acoustic boards in various thicknesses and sizes. Order your partition insulation online to get a fast quote, volume discounts, and quick UK-wide delivery.
Which partition wall insulation is best?
No single type is ideal for every wall, but:
- For most UK domestic projects, mineral wool slabs are the default choice – they fit snugly into stud walls and balance cost, ease of use, and performance.
- Glass wool partition wall insulation – it is less dense and cheaper. Works well for quick installs.
- For serious soundproofing – like in a studio, office, or hotel – acoustic partition insulation boards give the highest performance. They block more noise and keep rooms really quiet.
How much is partition insulation?
The choice of material, density, thickness, stud type, and acoustic rating all affect partition insulation costs. Prices vary widely, with installation costs for standard internal partitions ranging between £40 and £100 per m². Contact the Insulation Wholesale team to get a tailored quote that reflects accurate pricing for your project.
