100mm PIR TR24
One of the most widely used PIR boards among many builders, the 100mm PIR insulation board stands out for its versatility. It’s neither too thin nor too thick, and this thickness is suitable for different insulation applications.
What is 100mm PIR insulation?
The core material that makes up 100mm PIR insulation sheets is polyisocyanurate. This is a plastic foam created when isocyanates and polyols combine. To create the final product, the foam is placed between two facers and stretched to a thickness of 100mm. These facers double as a vapour barrier, keeping the water absorption rate low.
What are 100mm PIR used for?
A Polyisocyanurate board in 100mm thickness can help meet most of your building insulation needs. It’s ideal for:
- Walls — Insulate internal and external walls. Use on both solid masonry walls and framed walls.
- Floors — Can be used on different types of floors and is especially effective in ensuring thermal efficiency in ground floors.
- Underfloor heating — Boosts insulation and lowers the rate of downward heat loss.
- Roof insulation — Works well in ceilings and both pitched and flat roofs.

Benefits of 100mm PIR insulation
- They are versatile — 100mm PIR sheets are among the most versatile PIR panel sizes used for general insulation. You can use the board on its own or layer it with other insulation materials and PIR boards of different thicknesses.
- They are durable — PIR insulation 100mm is built to last. Most manufacturers guarantee a lifespan of 50 years or more for their PIR insulation sheets, which is a considerable lifetime in construction years.
- They are easy to fix — Setting up your 100mm insulation board is simple. The panels’ uniformity makes it easy for you to fit them in the space you’re insulating.
- They have high thermal efficiency — 100mm PIR insulation boards, like all PIR boards, allow minimal heat transfer due to their low thermal conductivity. As a result, the amount of heat loss is negligible, allowing you to enjoy increased energy efficiency and savings.

FAQ
How to cut 100mm PIR insulation?
Measure the size of the PIR board that is appropriate for your project. Put markings along the entire length or width of the board. Cut along the markings you’ve made using a Stanley knife or saw. If you foresee yourself handling plenty of insulation jobs, you can invest in an insulation saw or knife. But this may not be necessary, as utility knives and saws do a fine job.
How to install 100mm PIR insulation?
The process typically involves measuring and cutting the PIR board to match the size of your work area. Ensure that the area you’re working on is clean before you begin the installation. It’s advisable to follow the installation guidelines included in your user manual. As Insulation Wholesale notes, improper installation can impact the efficacy of PIR insulation, leading to energy inefficiencies and high energy costs down the line.
How much 100mm PIR insulation do I need?
The best way to determine how many pieces of 100mm PIR insulation you require is by dividing the surface area to be insulated by the coverage area of one PIR board. Select your PIR insulation sheet sizes according to the dimensions of the area to be insulated. If using large panels, you’ll need fewer pieces and vice versa.
