Knauf Vapour Panel
Moisture can enter walls unnoticed, especially in rooms with high humidity, warm air or frequent steam. Over time, it may lead to condensation-related odours, damp patches, and reduced insulation performance.
Knauf Vapour Panel is designed to help prevent these issues, providing a simple way to protect walls and maintain a dry, comfortable internal environment.
What is Knauf vapour plasterboard?
Knauf Vapour Panel is a plasterboard with a foil vapour-control layer firmly bonded to the reverse side of the typical gypsum core. It acts as an integrated vapour control layer that slows the passage of moisture into the building fabric.
Like standard plasterboard, vapour Knauf plasterboard panels are manufactured to BS EN 520 Type A standards. The only difference is the addition of foil backing, which turns the Knauf Vapour board into an effective moisture-control solution.
What is Knauf vapour board used for?
The Vapour Knauf plasterboard is used in:
- Bathrooms and shower rooms (excluding areas in direct, continuous water contact)
- Kitchens and laundry rooms
- External wall linings
- Rooms where insulation needs protection from moisture
- Any area where the building design requires a vapour control layer on the warm side of the insulation.

Can I cut Knauf vapour plasterboard?
Yes, you can cut Knauf Vapour Panel, but handle the foil carefully; tearing it can reduce the board’s effectiveness as a vapour barrier.
- Mark where you want to cut.
- Score the front face with a sharp utility knife.
- Bend the board backwards so it snaps along the scored line.
- Cut through the foil backing cleanly to maintain an intact vapour layer.
- (Optional) Smooth the cut edge with a rasp or sanding block.
How to fix vapour Knauf plasterboard?
- Get the frame ready – Studs or metal channels should be straight and firmly fixed.
- Cut to size – Score, snap the board. Handle foil gently.
- Foil faces in – Always position the foil toward the warm side (interior) of the room.
- Screw board in place – Use standard plasterboard screws and ~300mm spacing.
- Seal joints – Seal all joints and penetrations using appropriate foil tape to maintain vapour-control integrity.
- Finish – Apply jointing compound and joint tape to all seams.
