What is Mannok PIR boards?
Mannok PIR boards are multipurpose insulation panels commonly installed to enhance thermal performance in roofs, walls, and floors. Some Mannok PIR insulation comes with plasterboard backing on one side, allowing you to dry line internal walls and ceilings.
What is Mannok PIR insulation used for?
Thanks to its versatile design, Mannok PIR insulation is used in various spaces and applications, including:
- Cavity wall insulation.

- Attic and loft insulation.
- Drylining.
Mannok specifies the suitable uses for each board, so always confirm compatibility with your project before making a purchase.
Types of Mannok PIR insulation
Mannok insulation boards come in two main types: Mannok Therm Laminate-Kraft (MLK) PIR and Mannok Therm PIR Insulation.
Although both types are insulated panels made from PIR, each range is optimised for different applications.
Mannok Therm Laminate-Kraft (MLK) PIR
The dual-purpose MLK PIR range features a PIR core, plasterboard on one side, and kraft paper on the other, making it ideal for both insulation and drylining.
Mannok recommends that you use MLK boards for:
- Insulating cavity walls.
- Insulating attic and loft walls.
- Cold roof insulation for pitched roofs – install the board beneath and between the rafters.
- Cold deck insulation for flat roofs – install the board underneath and between timber joists.
- Internal drylining.
Mannok Therm PIR insulation
Mannok’s Therm PIR range is quite extensive. Unlike the MLK PIR range, which has a plasterboard facing, Therm PIR boards feature foil backing on either side.
These panels are typically used for:
- Floors.
- Pitched roofs.
- Internal masonry walls.
- Framed wall systems.
Benefits of using Mannok insulation boards
- Fits into small spaces – Limited wall depth? Choose a thinner Mannok insulation board and still enjoy reliable insulation.

How to properly cut rigid Mannok insulation panels?
Cutting rigid PIR boards like Mannok Therm requires the right tools.
Сhoose a straight edge
- Use a straight edge or board square to guide your cuts. This will keep your lines straight.
Mark the cut line clearly
- Mark your cutting line on the board (with a pencil or marker).
Score first, then break
For thinner boards (up to around 50–60mm):
- Score along the marked line – use a sharp insulation knife to score.
- Bend the board along the scored line until it snaps.
Cut thicker boards with a saw
For thicker PIR panels:
- Use a fine-toothed handsaw or circular saw.
- Cut slowly so the board stays straight and does not chip.
Control dust and safety
PIR dust irritates eyes and lungs. Wear protective gear, and cut outdoors or in a well-ventilated area.
Avoid hot-wire cutting
Do not use hot-wire cutters on PIR; they will cause the board to melt and release harmful fumes.
Proper cutting makes fitting the boards much easier and minimises gaps that can reduce performance.
