What is glass wool insulation?

This is a fibrous insulating material produced by spinning molten glass into thin strands. It belongs to the mineral wool family, alongside rock wool. Glass wool helps boost heat retention, improve energy efficiency, and increase acoustic comfort.

How does glass wool insulation work?

Glass fibre insulation works by trapping air within its fibrous structure. The trapped air slows heat movement, thereby lowering the rate of thermal transfer in and out of the building.

How to cut glass wool insulation?

Measure and mark the cut line. Use an insulation knife or long-bladed, fine-toothed saw to slice through the material. Apply firm, even pressure to get a smooth cut. Always wear protective gloves, goggles, and a mask when handling glass wool.

How to install glass wool insulation?

Ensure proper ventilation during installation. Unroll the insulation and then place it between joists, studs, or rafters. Maintain a tight fit to eliminate air gaps, but do not compress the fibres, as this reduces their insulation capacity. Cover with a vapour control layer to minimise condensation. Always follow the manufacturer’s installation guidelines.
