Knauf Sound Panel
Noise can be effectively reduced using an acoustic board such as the Knauf Sound Panel, improving acoustic privacy and comfort. Although commonly used in residential settings, the panel is also ideal for a wide range of commercial (offices, retail spaces, meeting rooms) and converted industrial spaces.
What is Knauf Acoustic Board?
Knauf Sound Panel is a denser gypsum plasterboard (Type A & D, as per BS EN 520), designed to reduce sound transmission. Its higher mass helps slow and reduce airborne noise, especially when used within a tested Knauf wall or ceiling system.
When plasterboard is fixed to studs or joists, vibrations can travel through the frame, allowing footsteps, conversation, and equipment noise to pass into adjacent rooms. The Sound Panel interrupts that path to slow, soften, and contain the sound.
What is Knauf Sound Board Used For?
Acoustic Knauf plasterboard is widely used for:
- Ceiling systems
- Partitions
- Wall linings
Here are some places where Knauf Sound plasterboard is installed:
- Homes – especially useful in bedrooms, living rooms, and home theatres.
- Offices – to improve concentration and privacy in meeting rooms and open-plan areas.
- Commercial buildings – to control sound transfer in hotels, restaurants, or clinics.
Benefits Of Knauf Acoustic Panel
Here is why installers choose the Knauf acoustic board:
- Provides enhanced sound performance – Knauf Acoustic Panel is ideal for applications that require a minimum surface density of 10 kg/m².
- Reduces noise transfer between rooms – The denser board provides improved sound insulation compared with standard plasterboard, so minimal sound (voices, footsteps, general ambient noise) travels through walls or partitions.
- Better acoustic comfort inside rooms – As part of Knauf’s acoustic‑solution offering, their acoustic products (including plasterboards) help improve sound quality by reducing echo, reverberation, and background noise when used as part of a complete Knauf acoustic system.
- Compatible with standard installation methods – Sound Panel uses gypsum core plasterboard (per BS EN 520 types A & D), so you install it like regular plasterboard.
- Performs as part of a fully tested Knauf system, and system warranties apply when installed to Knauf specifications.
- Suitable for residential & partitioned spaces – Particularly suited for residential applications and any build requiring plasterboards with surface density of at least 10 kg/m², making it appropriate for apartments, houses, and subdivided offices/rooms.

How to cut Knauf Sound Board
- Mark your cut line.
- Score the front surface. Run a sharp utility knife along the line. You don’t need to push hard — two or three light passes work better than one heavy one.
- Snap the board. Lift the board slightly and bend it backwards. It should break cleanly along the scored line.
- Cut the back paper. Fold the board forward, then slice through the back layer of paper with your knife to completely separate the two pieces.
- Clean the edge with a rasp.
How much noise does Knauf sound board block?
Knauf’s Complete Drywall/system brochures list example airborne sound reduction values for specific Knauf partition systems – for example, up to 61 dB Rw and in some high-performance systems up to 74 dB Rw. They show that acoustic results depend on the whole construction – stud type/width, number of board layers, cavity insulation, resilient details, and sealing.
