How thick should concrete floor insulation be?
The ideal insulation thickness for your project will depend on the specific performance requirements you hope to fulfil and your target U-values. UK Building Regulations require around 100–150mm of rigid board insulation for most concrete slab floors.
What size insulation for a concrete floor?
Concrete floor insulation boards are normally 2400mm (L) x 1200mm (W), though sizes may vary slightly between manufacturers, so always check product datasheets. For example, Kingspan also offers 1250mm x 600mm XPS boards for concrete floor insulation.

How to lay concrete floor insulation?
Begin by laying a damp-proof membrane (DPM). Follow this with the placement of the boards, positioning them close together. Seal all edges with tape if required, and then add a separating layer. Finish by pouring the concrete screed on top.
For above-slab systems, insulation sits beneath the screed layer; for below-slab systems, install insulation over the sub-base before the DPM.
