What is Kingspan Insulation?
Kingspan Insulation is the overall brand name of multiple sub-brand names produced by the Kingspan Group. It is designed for energy efficiency and long-term performance, covering multiple applications, from commercial roofs to residential walls.
How to install Kingspan insulation between rafters?
The most effective method, especially in conversions, is to put in one layer of Kingspan between the rafters and a second layer, like insulated plasterboard, underneath. This is the ‘between and under’ method and is effective at minimizing thermal bridging and keeping roof spaces warm.
You will need to be precise when cutting, account for ventilation and airflow, seal gaps, and finish (with plasterboard, skim finish, etc.)
How to install Kingspan wall insulation?
Take the example of Kooltherm K118 insulated plasterboard. First, ensure the surfaces are cleaned, left to dry, and checked for flatness and structural soundness. Install panels with mechanical fixings instead of adhesives, especially on ceilings.
Before installation, conduct a survey to assess dampness rates, defects, and ventilation. Edges and corners can be tricky and require planning ahead to avoid inefficiencies and condensation problems.
